Market watch – new and used deals
A couple of family friendly Ford deals for you here. Drive the Deal has a brand new unregistered Galaxy 1.8 diesel available for £18,613. That's £5,602 off the £24,215 list.
This might have something to do with the Panther Black paint and Infinity Orange trim combination; it’s eye-catching to say the least.
If a Galaxy is too big, Online Cars will have a 2.0-litre diesel S-Max Titanium ready for registration on September’s new ‘58’-plate. With delivery mileage only, it includes silver metallic paint, black leather, panoramic roof and self-levelling suspension. The price of £22,655 is a £3,590 saving.
The Best Buy Mazda MX-5 is always an appealing proposition, especially with the added security of a folding metal roof. 1.8 petrol Roadster Coupés with Option Pack are £16,287 at Carfile, a saving of £2,312 (12%).
Finally, Caterham Cars is having an ‘August pre-owned stock clearance’ – its first ever discount event for used Caterham 7s. You can view the list of stock online at the Caterham website, but for the best possible deal, call direct on 01883 333700. Just make sure you do so before the end of August.
Nissan Qashqai+2 pricing
The Nissan Qasqai+2 – a Qashqai with two extra seats – has now been priced, following its official debut at the British International Motor Show.
It will start at £17,199, and goes on sale 18th September. This seven-seater makes an interesting alternative to a people carrier, or even a full-sized SUV; the ‘normal’ Qashqai is a Which? Best Buy.
Three trim levels are available – Visia, Acenta and Tekna – and there’s a choice of 2.0-litre petrol or diesel engine. Front- or four-wheel drive are offered, alongside various gearbox options.
To fit in the extra seat space, the Qashqai+2 is 210mm longer than the regular version, with an extra 135mm added to the wheelbase. Standard equipment includes a panoramic roof, ESP, alloys, air-con and Bluetooth phone connectivity.
Special edition Smart ForTwo
Smart has announced a special edition ForTwo.
Badged ‘limited 2’, it’s based on the existing 71bhp Passion model, available in both coupe and cabrio body styles. It promises to be the most luxurious ForTwo ever.
Special, colour-changing exterior paint is complimented by ‘cognac brown’ leather seats, steering wheel and gearknob, plus velour floor mats with leather trim. You also get alloys, a rev counter, and a clock as standard.
Limited numbers are available, with the coupe priced at £9,575 and the cabrio £11,525 - £1,405 more than the ordinary Passion model.
Fiat and Skoda offers
In the quest for interesting alternatives to a regular family car, you might be considering one of these two: the Fiat Sedici and the Skoda Roomster. Happily they are both currently on special offer.
Fiat has just introduced a front-wheel drive only version of its Sedici. We can only wonder what’s taken Fiat so long; the identical Suzuki SX4 has been available with front-wheel drive from launch.
Anyways, the Sedici ‘4x2’ is well priced at £9,999, comes with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, and with a more efficient drivetrain should prove more frugal, too – official combined consumption is 42.2mpg. And to celebrate its arrival, there’s a limited edition introductory offer.
Just 120 examples are available but they include an extra £875 in equipment for free – comprising “Hard Rock Black” metallic paint, tinted windows, and 16-inch alloys.
Moving onto the Roomster, Skoda is currently offering a free trim upgrade. Pay for a Roomster, get a Roomster 2, pay for a Roomster 2, get a Roomster 3, pay for a Roomster 3 and get a Roomster Scout.
All in all this adds up to an effective saving of £1,000 on every model; the offer expires at the end of September.
2009 Peugeot 407
The 2009 Peugeot 407 has been revealed – and good luck spotting the difference.
The revised 407 actually goes on sale this September. It sports a number of visual tweaks (including new front air intake and rear bumper) alongside improved material quality.
The most significant changes come from the introduction of a new SR trim line, and a revised 2.0-litre diesel engine. This boasts increased power – 140bhp, up from 136bhp – and improved environmental performance, returning 49.5mpg and emitting 150g/km CO2.
Peugeot has also made some chassis mods, which are said to further improve the 407’s dynamics, while a ‘Bioflex’ E85 bioethanol compatible engine also joins the range.
New to the options list is Peugeot’s latest sat nav system, while SE and GT models get new “piano black” trim. Prices start at £17,295 for the saloon, £18,495 for the SW estate.
Mitsubishi ‘Big Summer Sale’
Mitsubishi is having a Summer Sale, and offering between £1,000 and £5,000 off a selection of its models. Here are the details:
Colt – all Colt CZ1 three- and five-door models are discounted by £1,000; this means the range starts at £6,499.
The outgoing Lancer is being offered for £1,500 off an Equippe, and £2,000 off an Elegance so prices start at £8,499.
The appropriately named L200 ‘Raging Bull’ Double Cab can be had at a £3,000 saving. It’s a follow up to last summer’s special edition of the same name, and this time the spec is even higher.
Equipment includes touchscreen sat nav, cruise control, 420w sound system, and 17-inch alloys. Prices begin at £16,939 (ex-VAT).
All Grandis MPVs are available with £4,000 off; prices therefore start at £12,999 for a 2.4 petrol Classic.
The long-wheel base Elegance and Diamond Shoguns get the biggest discount of all; £5,000 off means a Diamond automatic currently costs £27,699.
All these offers end on 30th September, so be quick.
