Audi has announced its new S4 will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next month.
Based on the regular A4, the performance-oriented S4 uses a new 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. This is more powerful and more efficient than the V8 fitted to the previous generation S4.
An impressive 328bhp and plenty of torque mean the S4 can reach 62mph in 5.1 seconds (the Avant takes 5.2). It has an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
Despite its power, the standard six-speed manual S4 still returns 29.1mpg while emitting just 225g/km of carbon dioxide.
A new seven-speed ‘S tronic’ dual-clutch automatic gearbox option improves this further to 30.1mpg and 219g/km.
The car also features Audi’s latest quattro four-wheel drive system, and Audi offers an array of chassis enhancement options, all under the label ‘Audi drive select’.
Available to order in late November, the first cars arrive in the UK in April 2009. Prices are expected to start at around £36,000 for the saloon model.
