PVRs are 'essential', says poll Most owners 'can't live without' their PVR

Over 70% of Brits who own a personal video recorder (PVR) say that they can’t live without it, according to a new survey.
A PVR lets you record TV shows in digital format to a disk drive within the TV set-top box.
A PVR allows satellite TV subscribers to pause live TV, record, play back, rewind and fast forward TV shows for viewing when choose.

The poll, carried out by digital technology firm NDS, asked consumers about essential household items.
The PVR was third after the washing machine - 95% said it was essential - and the microwave - 71% could do without it. And 64% of respondents with families believed that having a PVR had improved family life.
Which? technology editor Matthew Bath said: 'PVRs have made watching what you want, when you want, even easier than before – and the days of agonising over trying to set the video recorder are long gone. However, it's important to get the best-value PVR available that makes using it as easy as possible, and our tests of current PVRs are a good place to start.'
