Renault has revealed the price and details of its five-door Mégane hatchback.
Prices start at £13,995, and for the UK there will be three trim levels: Expression, Dynamique, and Privilège.
All five-door UK Méganes will get air conditioning, all-round electric windows, heated mirrors, six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC).
The mid-range Dynamique trim adds alloy wheels, Bluetooth, MP3 player connection, cruise control, and automatic lights and wipers. It’s expected to be the most popular.
Taking the 1.6 Dynamique petrol as an example, Renault claims it’s better equipped and cheaper than the rival Ford Focus. This car would sell for £15,245 which compares favourably to the Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 five-door at £15,845 (not including any discounts).
Privilège trim adds dual-zone climate control and rear parking sensors among other items.
At launch, the engine line-up for the Mégane will consist of three diesels and three petrols – including a new turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol. More choices will follow in 2009.
The car goes on sale 2 October, with first deliveries expected late November.
