Hot car deals, 28 October 2008Great deals on Honda Civic Type-R, Kia, Volvo & VW
28 October 2008
A new car may not exactly be top of your shopping list right now, but don't knock it until you've seen some of the savings we've spotted already this week.
For example, fancy saving £14,000 off a diesel VW Touareg? Or a healthy £3k off the more modest, but very capable, Kia Cee'd? Here's how...
Market Watch – new and used deals
Save £3k on Honda hot hatch
We've heard the Honda Civic Type-R will shortly be available in traditional Championship White. But if you want a good deal, don't bother waiting for that.
Internet car broker Drive the Deal has unregistered Civic Type-Rs with desirable GT pack for £16,038 – or £375 less if you don't want metallic paint.
The normal list price (with standard paint) is £19,040, so that's a saving of more than £3,000.
Save more than £4k on an unregistered Volvo V50
Or, if you don't mind buying a pre-registered Type-R, try Motorpoint. It has several Honda Civic Type-R GTs with metallic paint and delivery mileage, in stock and ready to go, priced at £15,499.
Need a little more space for the family? UK Cars Discount has 2.0-litre diesel Volvo V50 estates in top spec Sport SE trim with R Design styling kit, unregistered and available with a £4,347 discount. That means you pay £19,698 instead of £24,045.
The Kia Cee'd represents a decent used buy, but there aren't many of them about.
Kia Cee'd - a great used buy
How about a mid-spec Cee'd GS with useful 1.6-litre diesel engine for £9,998? With just 13,007 miles on the clock that compares well with the £13,320 you would pay new.
And as an 07-plate car you've still got more than five years of warranty remaining. See Autobytel for more details.
Finally, if you want proof of how quickly the used car market is changing, check out how cheaply you can pick up a VW Touareg off-roader, even with the most efficient 2.5 TDI diesel engine.
VW Touareg - huge savings
Motorpoint has 07-plate diesel Touaregs in stock from as little as £16,999 with just 13,000 miles under the wheels. New, this Touareg would have cost more than £31,000.
However, while breathtaking depreciation of around £1-a-mile might seem attractive if you’re buying a used Touareg, don’t forget it may carry on losing money in just the same vein…
