The UK Apple website currently features a teaser page, promising a ‘special one-day-only Christmas shopping event’ on Friday 28 November.
The date has more significance in the US, where the Friday after Thanksgiving is known as ‘Black Friday’. Traditionally, many US retailers offer special one-day only Black Friday discounts and deals.
As is often the case with Apple announcements, the exact details of the sale will only be declared on the day, although there are rumours of 5% discounts on hot Christmas presents such as iPods and iPhones. A similar event ran in November 2007, but some consumers were underwhelmed by the price cuts on offer.

Cut-price deals on Apple products are rare, with little variation in price between retailers either online or on the high street. However, the Apple student discount scheme gives year-round discounts to students and teachers, and some employers offer their own discounts.
There are also occasional bargains to be had on previous generations of products when new ranges are announced. Plus there are also sections on the Apple Store site for refurbished iPods and Macs with claimed savings of up to around 25%.
