Argos, the high street catalogue retailer, has bought the brands Alba and Bush in a £15.25 million cash deal.
The deal with Argos owner Home Retail Group means that Alba will now have to take on the new brand identity, Harvard.
An Argos spokesperson said: ‘The trademarks are household names with very strong heritage and high purchase frequency with Argos customers’.

Dave Holes, Which? researcher, said: ‘We regularly include Bush and Alba products in our testing, and are likely to continue testing their products, regardless of the brand name. In the past, Alba and Bush have received Best Buy awards, although they have been few and far between.’
Alba, a low-cost electrical goods company, posted pre-tax losses of £1.2 million in the six months leading up to September 30 2008.
