Lexus IS – more equipment, less moneyLexus cuts the price of its IS saloon for 2009
15 November 2008
Lexus is making changes to its BMW 3 Series-rivalling IS – the result is more equipment at a lower cost.
There are savings compared with every current Lexus IS, up to £1,057 (on the IS 250 SE). Yet every new model includes ‘Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management’ as standard. This coordinates the responses of all on-board car safety systems, including the stability control, ABS, and power steering, for the safest possible handling.
New SE-I spec
Also new are folding rear headrests, suede-effect trim on SE models, and larger 18-inch alloy wheels for the range-topping IS SE-L. A new specification, SE-I, adds front and rear parking sensors to the SE spec.
Other changes for the 2009 IS include new bumpers, larger door mirrors with integrated turn signals, new rear lights, and revised interior detailing – particularly on the centre console. Lexus has also made been minor adjustments to the chassis.
Lower emissions for IS220d
Meanwhile, the 2.2-litre diesel engine in the Lexus IS 220d has emissions reduced from 168g/km to 163g/km, dropping a car tax band in the process – and therefore saving £25 a year. The IS 250’s 2.5-litre petrol engine is unchanged.
Prices for the 2009 model Lexus IS begin at £22,490 for the 220d SE. It’s on sale from 15 November.
