Warner Bros has announced that the year’s biggest blockbuster, The Dark Knight, will be its first ever film to boast interactive BD-Live features when it is released on Blu-ray on 8 December.
Internet-enabled Profile 2.0 Blu-ray players – which include the Sony Playstation 3, Sony BDP-S350, Sony BDP-S550 and Panasonic DMP-BD50 – allow owners to access a variety of interactive features such as games and behind-the-scenes content on compatible discs.
The Blu-ray edition of The Dark Knight will allow owners to host Live Community Screenings with friends by sending invitations to watch the movie together online and chat together while the movie plays.
BD-Live users can also record their own commentary using a webcam, which can then be played back via picture-in-picture technology during the movie.
Very few BD-Live discs
“BD-Live offers owners a host of extra features and interactive options, but for now there are very few compatible discs, so involving the biggest film of the year has obviously been a top priority for Warner Bros,” says Which? TV and Blu-ray expert Michael Briggs.
