Casio shows new digital camerasFast, slim Exilim range showcased at CES 2009
22 January 2009
Casio unveiled six new digital cameras at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to bolster the Casio Exilim range.
The Casio EX-FS10, the Casio EX-FC100 and the Casio EX-S5 all feature 9.1Mp sensors. Both the EX-S5 and the ultra-slim EX-FS10 offer a 3x optical zoom, while the slightly larger EX-FC100 houses a 5x zoom.
The EX-FS10 and the EX-FC100 can both capture HD film footage and, according to Casio, can take up to 30 shots per second in their 6Mp burst modes.
The 12.1Mp EX400 sports a 3-inch LCD screen and has a 4x zoom. The EX-S12 also features 12.1Mp resolution, but it has a smaller display and reduced optical zoom range of 3x. The EX-Z270 (pictured) provides 10.1Mp resolution and a 4x zoom. All three of these models have a maximum ISO sensitivity of 1,600.
Resolution continues to steadily rise
Ben Stevens, Which? researcher, said: 'Many of the entry level cameras unveiled at this year's CES feature resolution between nine and 12 megapixels. The resolution available on digital cameras is continuing to steadily rise. Most consumers view their pictures on a PC's monitor, where the advantages of high-resolution usually go unnoticed. If you want to print your snaps to A4 size, then 8Mp or 9Mp is ample.'
UK prices and launch dates are yet to be confirmed on these models. For more information, visit our CES 2009 report, or check out our digital camera reviews in our digital camera report, where you'll find more than 260 digital cameras tested.
