HP 2133 Windows

HP has unveiled its latest lightweight laptop: the Intel Atom-based Mini 2140, the successor to the Mini 2133, at the CES 2009 show held in Las Vegas.

HP's Mini 2133 sub-notebook computer was notable for its stylish design and solid construction, and proved a hit for laptop users looking for a mix of lightweight netbook and more traditional laptop styling. It performed solidly in our tests, but failed to earn a Best Buy. Now sporting a new processor, HP has now announced the Mini 2140.

HP has replaced the processor with a newer Atom chip from Intel, aiming to squeeze more power and battery life out of the new machine. It features a 10.1-inch screen as well as a keyboard that's 92% the size of a standard keyboard - both strong points of the original Mini 2133. A range of storage options are available - including an optional 80GB solid-state drive – and there’s the choice of either a lightweight or higher-capacity battery.

HP Mini accessories

New accessories designed for the Mini include a USB docking station, USB-powered external speakers, and an optical disc drive for reading and writing CDs and DVDs.

With its built-in wireless connectivity and webcam, the Mini 2140 looks set to be a worthy addition to the HP stable, keeping the good points of the earlier model and adding a little more computing power. We'll bring you a first look and review as soon as it ships in the UK.
