Nokia has taken the wraps off the N86 mobile phone with 8Mp digital camera. The mobile phone is the first to feature an 8Mp sensor, variable aperture and a 28mm wide angle Carl Zeiss lens, according to Nokia.
The company says that the device is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2009, when it will retail for around €375.
Nokia says that the ‘Nokia N86 8MP is designed to excel in both bright and low-light conditions, and it’s optimised for both video and still imaging’.
Helmut Heier, of Carl Zeiss, said: ‘When it comes to taking the best digital photos, it’s the quality of the lens and the sensor that count, not just the quantity of pixels. The Nokia N86 8MP is the first mobile device with variable aperture.’
The 3G Nokia N86 8Mp, which was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, features a 2.6-inch OLED screen, 8GB of internal memory, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity, and a microSD slot.
12Mp Sony Ericsson Idou
Jon Barrow, Which? mobile phone expert, said: ‘The megapixel count on cameraphones has lead many consumers to believe that this is what makes a camera take a decent photo. It’s great that Nokia are beginning to address other aspects of a camera’s make up, such as the exposure settings and lens.’
