Olympus has announced the E-620 digital SLR camera. The price has yet to be confirmed, although Olympus reckons that it will fit into the range of DSLRs between the E520 and the E30, so we can expect it to retail at around £750.

The 12.3Mp SLR, according to Olympus, weighs only 475g (without the battery) and has compact dimensions in keeping with its lightweight frame. It features a 2.7 inch adjustable display, 29 scene modes and a maximum ISO sensitivity of 3,200.

Digital camera filters

The E-620 features six filters, which Olympus describe as 'enticing users to be artistic by allowing them to apply stylish effects at the touch of a button.' The filters include 'pin hole', 'grainy film', and 'pop art'. There are also five different aspect ratios to choose from, for creative framing and composition.

Ben Stevens, Which? researcher, said: 'We've seen these filters in use before on the Olympus E-30 and they produce an interesting effect. By bundling them into the already compact E-620, Olympus are trying to help you keep the weight and size of you kit bag to a minimum.'

Digital SLR reviews

The Olympus E-620 will be available in the following configurations: body with 14-42mm kit lens, body with 14-42mm lens and 40-150mm zoom lens, and body with 25mm fixed pancake lens.
