Olympus micro four-thirds camera

Images of the highly anticipated MFT from Olympus
Olympus MFT concept

Olympus has released concept images of what the Olympus micro four-thirds camera may look like when it is launched later this year.

The camera will be the second micro four-thirds camera to be launched, following in the footsteps of the Best Buy Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1.

Olympus and Panasonic partnership

Panasonic and Olympus have been working together to design the new micro four-thirds system. Micro four-thirds cameras, or MFTs, are smaller than digital SLRs yet still have interchangeable lenses – unlike compact digital cameras.

The interchangeability of the lens allows users to be more creative in their photography, while the smaller body offers greater portability.

Panasonic G1 review

The Panasonic G1 was launched at last year’s Photokina in Cologne, Germany. For more information about the Panasonic G1 check out our Panasonic G1 video, or read the full Panasonic G1 review.

Richard Parris, Which? digital camera expert, said: ‘Judging by the concept images, the Olympus MFT looks much smaller than the Panasonic G1. We expect to hear an announcement about this model in the upcoming PMA show in Las Vegas next week, although we don’t expect to see the product on sale until at least the autumn or even winter of this year.’
