Amazon drops price of MP3 downloadsMore than 100 songs now available for 29p
07 April 2009
Amazon has reduced the price of over 100 songs to just 29p. The MP3 files, ranging from old to new, can be downloaded from Amazon's online MP3 download store.
The store first launched in the US in 2007, and was introduced to the UK in December 2008, when the library of tracks available for downloading stood at around three million.
Since then, the Amazon MP3 store has added around 10,000 tracks each day, which now means that there are around five million tunes to choose from.
DRM-free MP3 music
Julian Monaghan, head music buyer at Amazon.co.uk, said: 'Since our launch just four months ago, we have been presenting our customers with some great deals on MP3s, whilst rapidly expanding our catalogue, and we will continue to do so going forward.'
Amazon's MP3 store provides DRM-free downloads, meaning that they can be easily transferred between MP3 players, PCs and laptops.
iTunes, Apple's online MP3 library, also now offers DRM-free music, however the cost of a single download is set to increase to 99p for current chart singles, while the 29p deal from Amazon includes some current chart singles.
