LG Viewty Smart mobile phone to launchLG GC900 mobile phone scheduled for May sale date
20 April 2009
LG has confirmed that a follow-up to the popular Viewty mobile phone will be launched in May. The LG GC900 - dubbed the LG Viewty Smart - is an 8Mp camera phone that will be available through network providers from next month.
LG claims that the Viewty Smart will be the slimmest 8Mp camera phone available - measuring just 12.4mm in depth. The Viewty Smart features an ISO sensitivity of up to 1,600, which should allow for better to photographs to be taken in dim light. It has 1.5GB of internal storage memory, which can be supplemented with a MicroSD card.
Intelligent image processing on LG Viewty Smart
Dr Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Mobile, said: 'Viewty is back and better than ever, with new smart camera applications that take care of all the complicated camera adjustments for you. Viewty Smart represents the next generation of LG camera phones and will drive LG leadership in the industry with its innovative, smart technology.'
The Viewty Smart features an intelligent image processor, which analyses the subject, background and lighting conditions of a photograph and then chooses the best setting for the scenario from seven pre-programmed settings - similar to the intelligent functions on some compact digital cameras.
Touchscreen mobile phone
The Viewty Smart also features a selection of touchscreen functions that are designed to assist with the handset's camera operation. Similar to the LG user interface that was introduced on the LG Arena mobile phone, an on-screen dial can be used to switch between camera settings. The dial can also be used to zoom in and out, by moving your finger in a clockwise or anti-clockwise action like you would on a DSLR's zoom ring.
Jon Barrow, Which? mobile phone expert, said: 'The camera specifications of the original LG Viewty were impressive, however the test results fell short of our expectations. LG has made a number of developments to the Viewty to create the Viewty Smart, and we are hoping for a good set of results when we come to test this mobile phone.'
