The Good Food Guide names its best UK restaurants

With a month to go, more than 10,000 members of the public have already nominated their favourite local restaurant for The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year Award.

The award recognises excellence and good service at independently-owned restaurants, pubs and cafés across the UK.  Ten regional winners will be announced at the end of May and the overall winner will be announced at the Which? awards ceremony at the British Museum in June.

There is still time to nominate your favourite restaurant. You can vote online or send in a postcard available in restaurants, until Friday 15 May 2009.

Elizabeth Carter, Consultant Editor, The Good Food Guide, says: 'It’s great to see that people are voting in their thousands to champion their favourite independent restaurants. The competition is still wide open, so if there’s somewhere that you love to eat out then show your support by casting your vote.'

Chris Johnson, owner of ramsons, which won the award last year, says: 'Winning the Readers’ Restaurant of the Year award has had a fantastic impact on business. I have no doubt that our continuing success is due to the consistent quality of the product my team seek to offer our customers. The Good Food Guide’s role in conveying this quality is indisputable.'
