Save more than £3.5k on a Ford Kuga

Still fancy an SUV, but don't want to be environmentally insensitive?

It just so happens that Buy A Car can save you over £3,600 on two of the most eco-friendly SUVs available – the and the .

The Kuga in question is the two-wheel drive 2.0-litre diesel version in Zetec specification, which emits just 159g/km CO2 – the lowest CO2 figure of any current SUV. The price is £16,628 including metallic paint at Buy A Car; that spec lists at £20,270 from Ford. So that's a £3,642 saving.

The CR-Vs are stock vehicles, in 2.2 i-CDTi turbodiesel SE specification, and the price is £16,817 if you buy one before the end of May. It emits 173g/km CO2 so isn't quite so clean – but it is also a bigger vehicle. And compared to the £20,485 Honda list price, that's a useful £3,668 saving.

This coupé-convertible has just been replaced by the 308 CC. Motorpoint has got its hands on several 2.0-litre HDi turbodiesels in Sport specification. Brand-new from Peugeot (and they are still available), these 09-registered 308 CCs with delivery mileage are supposed to cost £22,275.

Motorpoint is selling them for £14,999. A substantial £7,276 reduction.

Speaking of cars that have just been discontinued, the 2.7-litre turbodiesel has just been replaced by an all-new 3.0-litre turbodiesel, which offers more power and lower CO2 emissions.

This got us to wondering what the going rate is for a used 2.7. A quick look on Auto Trader reveals that entry-level Luxury spec is going for around £27,000 for a 10,000-mile old car. Which looks pretty good against the base £33,900 list price for a new 3.0 XF diesel.

Until you learn that Broadspeed is selling 09 examples of the 3.0-litre for £28,469. That's £5,431 off, and only around £1,469 more than a 2.7.
