Iconic shop Woolworths has made an online comeback with a new website launched today.
The new Woolworths website is owned by retail giant Shop Direct and will sell more than 500,000 products.
Woolworths relaunched online
Woolworths disappeared from the high street last November after going into administration amid plunging sales and soaring debts.
Shop Direct, which owns catalogue brands Kays and Marshall Ward, bought the Woolworths brand in February, and said: ‘Families wanted us to bring back Woolies as soon as possible’.
With more shops disappearing from the high street, it has become more important to support local businesses. Which? Local can tell you the top shops in your local area as recommended by Which? members.
Woolworths to sell pic ‘n’ mix online
Among the goods you can buy on the new Woolworths site are pic ‘n’ mix sweets, CDs, DVDs, Ladybird childrens’ clothing and toys.
Woolworths will also sell barbecues and family sized swimming pools, but not DIY and household goods like kettles. The site has three separate checkouts for party, entertainment and main shop purchases, which Shop Direct hopes to integrate by autumn.
