MG TF

MG is an old car design, so don't pay too much for one

A new MG TF for £2,500 less

The old MG TF roadster is back in production thanks to the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation.

The cheapest one you can buy brand new is the MG TF 135, which is powered by 135bhp 1.8-litre petrol engine. It’s priced from £13,511.

There is also a limited edition TF LE 500, although the cost of that is £16,055. Remember, this is a car design that dates back to 1995 – and for that amount of money you could get the latest Mazda MX-5...

However, if you do want an MG, try a car broker instead. Broadspeed is selling MG TFs for £10,991 - a minimum £2,520 saving.

Save more than £12,000 on Swedish Volvos

Volvo S80

Does the price incentive outweigh the disadvantages of buying an imported Volvo S80?

This is an interesting deal. Car supermarket Motorpoint has secured a small number of delivery mileage Volvo S80s from Sweden.

They are all 2.5-litre turbo petrols with automatic gearboxes - not the most frugal specification. But, priced at £17,599 and loaded with kit - including leather seats, Dolby Surround Sound stereo, climate control, metallic paint, and all-round parking sensors - Motorpoint claims the cars represent a £12,193 saving.

The catch is that, although the cars are effectively brand new, they originate from Sweden. This means buyers will only get the balance of a two-year warranty that started ticking down earlier this month. And any warranty work required will need to be invoiced through Motorpoint, rather than your local Volvo dealer.

It’s a big saving. So you pays your money, and you takes your choice...

‘Free’ Citroёn C1 upgrade

Citroen C1

Citroёn's C1 performed well in our latest car reliability survey

Finally, some inexpensive city motoring with a high degree of reliability built in.

The Citroёn C1 gained an impressive eighth place for reliability in the 2009 Which? Car Survey, beating both its Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo cousins - they are all essentially the same car, and all built by Toyota.

So to celebrate its success, a sweet little offer. The 1.0-litre petrol VTR three-door is one of AutoFinders’ deals of the week.

Priced at £7,495, it not only represents a £1,100 saving over the £8,595 list price, it also matches the list price for the lower spec VT model - so you can effectively upgrade for free.
