One in every six cars sold in 2008 emitting less than 120g/km CO2 was a Peugeot. The French company aims to do even better this year thanks to a new super economical 207 model.

99g/km CO2 and 74.3mpg

It’s called the 207 Economique and like a number of other superminis on the market, it emits just 99g/km CO2. Special features to help it achieve this include a revised 1.6-litre HDi turbodiesel engine, new five-speed manual gearbox, and improved aerodynamics. This includes a 5mm height reduction, special bodykit and wraparound rear spoiler.

The engine produces 90bhp, and accelerates the 207 Economique to 62mph in 11.7 seconds. Top speed is 115mph, and the 207 Economique has an official combined fuel economy figure of 74.3mpg.

Air conditioning optional

Two versions are available, the 207 Economique and the 207 Economique +. The latter includes air conditioning, electric heated mirrors and a trip computer. Remote locking, electric windows, four airbags and a gear shift indicator are standard throughout.

Three- and five-door hatchback variants of the 207 Economique are offered, and the car is on sale now.

Prices range from £12,995 to £14,495, which compares well with other diesel models in the Peugeot 207 range.
