Summer is a great time to bag a bargain off-roader – we’ve found great deals on the Land Rover Discovery and Volvo XC90. If you prefer something more compact, how about a Kia Cee’d or an ex-demo Renault Twingo?

Land Rover Discovery 3

Snap up a Discovery 3 for less

Save over £7k on Land Rover Discovery 3

The current Land Rover Discovery 3 is due to be replaced by a heavily revised Discovery 4 model in September. This may be good news, as the Disco 3 hasn’t fared well for reliability in the annual Which? Car survey – it was the worst performing 4x4 this year and the last.

But, if you are prepared to take a risk on the existing Land Rover Discovery, you are in line for some hefty savings as dealers clear remaining stock.

For example, UK Car Discount has the range-topping HSE 2.7 TDV6 turbodiesel for £38,477 - a reduction of £7,248 off list price.

The vehicles are all brand new, unregistered and UK dealer supplied, ready for a 59 registration plate.

30% off Volvo XC90

The Disco deal sounds good. But we can do better - on the Volvo XC90.

Drive the Deal’s latest round of offers includes a 2.4 D5 turbodiesel in SE specification with Geartronic automatic gearbox for just £25,998.

The list price for this Volvo model is £36,395, so that’s a £10,300 saving on a brand new UK dealer supplied car - working out at 30%.

Renault Twingo

Big bucks off the small Renault Twingo

Save £2k on a Renault Twingo

If you’re after a more modest vehicle, how about the cheap and cheerful Renault Twingo city car.

The 1.2 Extreme model offers frugal running and reasonable equipment, and seems competitively priced from £8,785.

However, Motorparks has an 09-plate ex-demonstrator with just 500 miles under its wheels for £7,000. As this car was specced up to the value of £9,200, that’s a £2,200 saving.

Prefer a brand new Renault Twingo? Try Broadspeed, which reckons it can source the same model for £7,567 - £1,218 less than list.

Kia Cee'd SW

Kia Cee'd SW is now same price as the hatchback

£2,000 Kia Cee’d discount

Meanwhile, Kia is knocking £2,000 off the cost of the five-door Cee’d LS diesel until the end of September. This brings the price down from £14,745 to £12,745 just in time for the new 59-plate registration.

And if you fancy an estate, you’re in luck, as all Cee’d SW models are currently on offer for the same price as their five-door hatchback equivalents, saving up to £800.

The Cee’d is about to get a questionable facelift - see more in our - so these discounts should help dealers clear remaining stocks of the current version.

And finally...

The Stratstone dealer group is having a used car event this Friday and Saturday, where every car sold will qualify for two years’ free servicing. Since Stratstone is a luxury motoring specialist - the very cheapest cars they deal with are Mini and Smart - this could work out quite a saving.
