Good Food Guide 2010

Good news for the British restaurant scene

This year, there has been an upsurge of 7/10 scores in The Good Food Guide 2010, given for a 'high level of ambition and individuality'.

Murano in London and Fraiche, Merseyside are two such new entries.

There are also some strong contenders scoring 6/10, including restaurants such as The Sportsman in Whitstable and ramsons in Greater Manchester.

Notable young chefs have also joined the big league, with chefs such as Robert Thompson at the Hambrough, Isle of Wight, and Will Holland at La Becasse, Ludlow, who are both still in their 20s, making the grade.

It's business as usual at the top of the table, with The Fat Duck in Berkshire at number one (scoring a perfect 10/10 for the second year running) and Gordon Ramsay at number two for his flagship restaurant at Royal Hospital Road, London. Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley, London, is third and Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons, Oxford, is fourth.

Exciting times ahead

But Elizabeth Carter, consultant editor of The Good Food Guide, says that things could be set to change with such an explosion of new talent: 'There are so many great British restaurants hitting their stride at the moment that we just had to expand to a top 50.

'Despite the credit crunch, the British restaurant scene has never been so vibrant.'
