So the scrappage scheme has been extended - where are the deals?

Nissan Micra

Scrappage deals extended on Nissan Micra

Latest scrappage savings from Kia, Nissan and Volvo

Quick off the blocks with response to the Government’s announcement of the extension are Volvo, Nissan and Kia.

Volvo simply said it was happy with the plan, and reported how many cars it has sold so far via the scheme (4,220).

Nissan confirmed that its own deal - £2,000 off any British-built Nissan when you trade in a car up to eight years old (rather than 10) - is also being extended.

That means a Micra costs as little as £6,395.

Kia, meanwhile, points out that the extension means buyers will be able to get £2,000 off the revised Cee’d when it goes on sale 1 October. This means the facelifted car with revised chassis, appearance and interior, but still the same seven-year warranty, from £7,995.

Ford Fiesta

Pick up an ultra-efficient Fiesta Econetic

Double scrappage discount on nearly new cars

Alternatively, if you don’t desperately want to buy a new car, Motorpoint has announced the equivalent of double the scrappage on some '09' registration cars.

The vehicle it particularly chooses to highlight is the ultra-popular , in all versions from 1.25-litre petrol Style through to the 1.6 TDCi Econetic turbodiesel. The latter is available through Motorpoint on an 09-plate for as little as £10,799 - which works out £4,166 less than the current brand new list price. Not bad.

Alternatives to the Fiesta include the Vauxhall Corsa - 1.3 CDTi turbodeisel ecoFLEX models in Club spec from £8,999 represent a £4,686 saving - and the Nissan Micra - a 1.2 Tekna petrol for £7,999 is a saving of £4,316.

Comparison prices are based on current main dealer list (including delivery). Contact Motorpoint for more details.

Discount new Volkswagens

One of the consequences of the economic downturn, which has seen production volumes reduced, and the scrappage scheme, which has seen demand for certain models spike, is that some new cars now have a lengthy waiting list.

Volkswagen is amongst the manufacturers particularly impacted by this. However, Autobytel has some 'breaking news' - it’s secured access to a number of VWs that are available brand new delivered within seven days. And you can have a discount, too.

VW Passat CC

Svelte new VW Passat CC at discount

The offer covers everything from 2.0-litre petrol Beetles reduced £3,109 to £15,490, to the GT 2.0 TSI turbo petrol reduced £3,465 to £21,490.

Other highlights include the previous generation turbodiesel in base trim at £10,990, a £2,575 reduction, and the Eos coupé-cabriolet 2.0 TSI turbo petrol in Sport spec at £21,890, a £3,440 reduction.

There are also savings on the regular Passat, the Jetta, the Sharan and the Touran. These are stock cars, so you can’t choose your options (though most already have extras loaded).

But if you want a new VW and you want it fast, give Autobytel a call on 0845 415 3200. It may be worth checking the country of origin before you purchase, but these still look like good deals to us.
