Motorists in parts of Bromley and Cleveland are the UK's most likely to make insurance claims for car crime, according to new research.
Drivers in Chislehurst, Bromley made three times as many claims for stolen cars and property than the average UK motorist, data from moneysupermarket.com shows.
Some 3.82% of Chislehurst’s car drivers made a claim for crime in the year to August 2009, researchers said, compared to the UK average of just 1.17%. Drivers in Wingate, Cleveland were close behind, with 3.72% making a claim in the same time 12-month period.
Insurance claim hotspots
According to the comparison site, which collected data from 3.8m quotes between September 2008 and August 2009, said Manchester, Sheffield and Bradford are also claim hotspots.
Other areas seemingly affected by high levels of car crime include Romford City Centre and Woodford Green, in Ilford.
Steve Sweeney, head of motor insurance at moneysupermarket.com said: ‘I am not surprised to see metropolitan areas of the country such as Manchester and Sheffield fall in the top 20 postcodes areas.
‘However what the research does reveal is a broad mix of places across the country are at risk, highlighting the issue that no matter where you live, there is always a chance you could become a victim of theft and motorists should take this risk seriously.’
