The T-Mobile Pulse Android mobile phone can be bought today, contract-free, for £176.16.
The Pulse is the first Android-based mobile phone to launch in the UK that is available on a PAYG tariff, and it’s currently available exclusively from T-Mobile.
Android operating system
The Android mobile phone operating system first became available in the UK last year with the launch of the HTC G1, which was also available exclusively from T-Mobile.
The operating system allows you to customise your handset by downloading applications from the Google Android Market.
Android mobile phones
Since the launch of the T-Mobile G1, there has been two other HTC Android mobile phones: the HTC Hero and the HTC Magic, and more recently the Samsung Galaxy. All previous handsets, however, have only been available on contract.
The T-Mobile Pulse has been manufactured by the Chinese company Huawei. It features a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a 3.2Mp camera and comes supplied with a 2GB SD card. It also features GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Mobile phone reviews
Jon Barrow, Which? mobile phone expert, said: ‘At £180 you can hardly describe the Pulse as a budget mobile phone, but it is a good value option if you’re looking to get a large touchscreen mobile phone with access to the Android Market.’
The T-Mobile Pulse can also be bought on a £27.50 per month 18-month Combi 25 contract.
