Orange launches recycling for cash schemeTrade in old mobile phones and laptops for cash

Orange has launched a new scheme allowing consumers to trade in their old laptops and mobile phones, in store, for cash.
Orange believes that two thirds of Brits have old and unused mobile phones at home and that a straightforward recycling scheme is required to help consumers dispose of these 90 million handsets in a green way.

Orange will offer cash for products returned that the company deems to have value. As an example, Orange claims that it shall offer up to £85 when recycling a Nokia N95, up to £75 when recycling a Sony Ericsson C905, and up to £95 when recycling a Samsung SCH 900.
Orange will also offer cash for laptops and personal music players that the company deems as having value, and recycle any mobile phone, laptop or personal music player that the company perceives as having no value.

Consumers will also be able to use the Orange copy and keep service that will allow them to transfer any multimedia content from their old devices to their new devices. This service will be free to Orange customers and will cost £6 to non-Orange customers.
Ben stevens, Which? technology expert, said: 'Schemes already exist whereby consumers can post their mobile phones to companies such as Fonebank, but this in-store scheme makes the process easier. Such a straightforward cash-in-hand scheme is going to appeal to many people, but the reduced number of electronic goods being sent to landfill sites is the real bonus'.
