Popular ovens linked to carbon monoxide deathsNew World, Leisure and Belling models affected
06 November 2009
Owners of certain Leisure, Flavel, Belling and New World cookers are being warned their ovens may pose a potentially fatal safety risk if user instructions are not followed.
The grill function on a limited number of gas ovens with a separate grill poses risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if the grill compartment door is closed while grilling.
A safety alert was originally issued in May 2009, when it was reported that six deaths between November 2008 and January 2009 had been linked to the affected ovens. Around 49,000 models were originally thought to be affected and owners are still being sought through adverts in newspapers.
