New entry-level 1.4 engine for VW SciroccoCheapest Scirocco returns a claimed 44mpg
05 January 2010
Volkswagen has added a new entry-level engine to its Scirocco coupé line-up, and introduced a new styling pack for the range-topping Scirocco GT.
Available to order from 4 January, the newest is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI 122 turbo petrol engine. Producing 120bhp and 147lb ft of torque (pulling power), the baby Scirocco can sprint from 0-62mph in 9.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 124mph.
Despite this sprightly performance, the small size of its engine means it returns a claimed fuel economy of 44.1mpg, while emitting a low 146g/km of CO2.

It also becomes the first Scirocco in the UK to be offered without Adaptive Chassis Control as standard. This gives adjustment over suspension, steering and throttle response, and is available as a £765 option.
The new Volkswagen Scirocco 1.4 TSI 122 costs from £18,860 - making it £1,800 cheaper than the previous base model.
Lugano Black styling for Scirocco GT
Meanwhile, Volkswagen is now offering a Lugano Black styling pack for the Scirocco GT model. This comprises 10-spoke 19-inch Lugano alloy wheels finished in gloss black, plus additional Piano Black trim inserts throughout the cabin. It costs £960.
