Nintendo DSi XL launch date announcedPortable gaming device with two 4.2-inch screens
14 January 2010
Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo DSi XL, with its twin 4.2-inch screens, will launch in the UK on Friday 5 March 2010.
The new DSi XL features the same capabilities as the previous Nintendo DSi, therefore allowing users to download games through a Wi-Fi connection from the Nintendo DSi Shop.
Wider viewing angle on the Nintendo DSi XL
According to Nintendo, the new DSi XL also features a wider viewing angle. Nintendo describes this as making it easier for friends and family to see the screen when sat beside the person using the device.
The Nintendo DSi XL comes with Dr. Kawashima's: Little Bit of Brain Training pre-installed. The new portable gaming device will launch in two colours: wine red and dark brown.
The tops of the new Nintendo DSi XLs will be glossy, while the undersides shall be finished in matt, providing better grip when placed on a smooth, flat surface. The models will come with a pen-shaped stylus and an SD memory card slot.
Which? gaming expert Jack Turner said: 'With the release of this new DSI XL, Nintendo look to be appealing to an even wider audience than the substantial one they already have. The larger screens and better viewing angles should appeal to both hardcore gamers and new comers alike.'
Nintendo DSi XL first look
Like the previous Nintendo DSi, the new DSi XL features a camera and fun picture-editing capabilities.
Which? will take a look at the Nintendo DSi XL in the next few days and will bring you a first look video soon.
Nintendo launched the original Nintendo DS in March 2005 and has sold more than 10 million units.
