Steam iron reviews
We tested 11 new irons in our latest test, and scores varied from 36% to 72%.
We were particularly impressed by one iron which costs less than £25 but scored an impressive 70% in our test, making it a Which? Best Buy.
As well as unveiling the identity of this bargain Best Buy iron, the full irons review reveals which iron failed to live up to the reputation of its predecessor and how the Marks and Spencer TU-3996 iron fared against more established brands.
The steam generators on test scored between 39% and 78%, and one easy-to-use model was awarded Best Buy status.
Steam generators differ from traditional irons as they consist of two parts – a traditional-looking iron unit connected to a separate water tank. The iron unit is lighter than a conventional iron and they typically generate higher steam pressure, making ironing quicker and easier.
Choosing the right iron
Which? product researcher Lizzy Ruffles says: ‘Getting a decent iron will help you banish creases quickly and easily, with minimum effort.
‘Which iron will best suit you depends on where, when and how often you’ll use it. If you do a lot of ironing, you may find its worth investing in a more powerful steam generator.’
Which? reviews allow you to compare over 100 different irons and steam generators to find the most suitable product for your needs.
As well as an overall score, each iron is rated on its performance, usability, overall ease of use, descaling, filling the tank, heat up time, storage and noise.
