American fridge freezer for 'slimmer' UK kitchensAmerican fridge freezer for European kitchens
15 March 2010
AEG-Electrolux has launched a large capacity, American-style fridge freezer to fit slimmer European kitchens - expected to sell at around £2,000.
Available from April, the S75678SK1 food centre - which has a 370 litre fridge capacity and 267 litre freezer capacity - is 60cm deep, meaning that it will fit into smaller spaces typical of European kitchens.
Which? domestic appliance expert Carole Shepherdson says: 'American-style fridge freezer depths commonly range from 68 to 80cm - so 60cm is quite shallow. However, at 119cm wide.this model is wider than most. The widest model we've tested so far is the 93cm wide Beko AB910W.'

The side by side fridge freezer is also built in situ, meaning that those with a long, narrow kitchen will still be able to have a large capacity, American-style appliance - without worrying about getting it round tight corners or door frames.
According to AEG-Electrolux, the stainless steel finish is 'fingerprint-proof' and the interior contains a wine rack, extra-large salad drawer, covered dairy compartment, egg tray and butter shelf, as well as a quick chill bottle shelf.
A shopping function allows you to lower the temperature to compensate for warming during transportation of newly bought food, and Coolmatic and Frostmatic functions allow you to quickly chill or frost food.
The S75678SK1 food centre is rated A+ for energy efficiency. Its twin compressors mean the fridge and freezer compartments operate independently, so you can turn the fridge off and leave the freezer on if you're going away - saving energy and reducing running costs.
