Skoda has scooped the prestigious title of ‘Best Car Manufacturer’ at the 2010 Which? Awards.
The Czech carmaker, owned by Volkswagen Group since 2001, beat a shortlist of five other manufacturers (Hyundai, Honda, Lexus, Mazda and Volvo) to be crowned Best Car Manufacturer for 2010.
The premise of this year’s Which? Awards was ‘Who cares, wins’ and all six finalists excelled in this field. However, since being runner-up in last year’s awards, Skoda has displayed a fierce ambition to outperform itself in pretty much every area, from the products it sells to the customer service it delivers.
High praise for Skoda
These improvements have not only been noted by the Which? Car test team but, more importantly, by Which? members and Skoda owners – who, every year, contribute to the Which? Car survey, the UK’s biggest car ownership survey.
Presenting the award was chief executive of Which?, Peter Vicary-Smith. ‘Skoda is a car company ideally suited to the times, as people demand more but want to pay less.
‘It offers a great range of reasonably-priced, well-built cars and, perhaps most significantly, it outperforms its VW Group sister brands (Audi, Seat and VW) when it comes to the quality of customer care,’ said Mr Vicary-Smith.
Editor of Which? Car Richard Headland added, ‘People might know Skoda as a purveyor of value, but what they might not know is that this brand should be equally recognised for its quality of product, its reliability and its excellent dealer network.’
Catherine Sleigh was delighted to accept the award for Skoda, highlighting the fact that the founders’ motto (‘Only the best is good enough for our customers!’) still drives Skoda’s strategy today.
At the annual Which? Awards ceremony, the consumer champion celebrates those companies that consistently get it right for their customers, from audio-visual brands and airlines to online retailers.
Which? Awards are entirely independent. Businesses can’t put themselves forward for an award – they are chosen on the basis of the consumer champion’s rigorous research and feedback from Which? members.
