LG's new 11kg steam washing machine promises to save energy and water - as well as reduce the time you'll have to spend ironing your clothes.

The manufacturer has extended its range of steam-enabled washing machines with the large capacity 11kg Steam Direct Drive - most washing machines offer 6-7kg of drum capacity.

The washing machine simultaneously releases steam and water into the drum during a wash, improving 'heating efficiency' and therefore reducing the energy and water needed per wash. LG says the washing machine uses 29% less water and 21% less energy than a 'conventional 8kg model'.

This washing machine could also prove a hit with those who loathe the arduous task of doing the ironing. Its steam refresh setting promises to 'eliminate creases and unwanted odours' in 20 minutes. Other features include:

  • allergy care cycle to wash out 'dust, pollen and 99.98% of dust mites'
  • damping system to reduce noise from the washing machine
  • '6 motion technology' which allows the drum to change movements according to wash type - from delicates to ingrained sportswear.

According to Which? washing machine expert Vivienne Fitzroy: 'The steam function looks like a nice extra feature on this washing machine to help quickly freshen up clothes. Anything that helps reduce your weekly pile of ironing is good news - but unfortunately, we don't envisage this type of functionality will be able to replace the humble steam iron and ironing board for the majority of ironing tasks any time soon.'

We'll be getting this machine into the Which? test lab shortly - in the meantime, you can take a look at more in-depth washing machine reviews, including eight LG models, to help you choose a top performing washer.

With a guide price of between £899.99-£1999.99, this washing machine certainly won't come cheap. It'll be on sale in Currys from August.
