The Samsung Flexiclean

Struggling to clean awkward corners will be a thing of the past with the new Flexiclean vacuum cleaner, claims Samsung.

The two-in-one vacuum cleaner can be used as both an upright and a cylinder. At first glance it looks like a conventional upright but comes with extra features to offer some of the benefits of a cylinder vac.

It will hit branches of Currys and Comet in the next few weeks with a £199 RRP.

The Flexiclean has a pop-up tool that can be detached from the vac's main body and used 'cylinder' style, with the main body of the vac remaining stationary. Samsung says the tool detaches easily from the main vac unit so there’s 'no need to constantly fiddle with accessories as you make your way around the house'.

This pop-up tool has a 3.5m stretchable hose allowing easy access to corners, edges and under furniture.  It also comes with a automatic cord rewind, a feature usually only found on cylinders.

Upright vs cylinder vacuums

Our research shows that most people have a clear preference about which type of vacuum cleaner they prefer.  Half of Which? members prefer an upright and only a tenth are unsure about what type they would buy next.

Which? vacuum cleaner expert Vivienne Fitzroy says: 'We know people prefer one particular type of vac, but we've not seen one that claims to offer the benefits of both an upright and a cylinder vac before. We'll be taking a close look at the Flexiclean in the next few weeks to see if it really does deliver the convenience it claims'.

In the meantime we've got over 100 reviews of cylinders and uprights in our vacuum cleaners review guide.

Easier vacuuming?

The Samsung Flexiclean comes with a 1800W motor and a 3 litre dust container, which Samsung says won't need emptying as often as other vacs.

It also benefits from Samsung's patented twin chamber technology which is designed to prevent the filters from clogging and loss of suction power. It's dual-motor system adapts to carpet and wooden floors.

All this means that vacuuming is more convenient and less time consuming - according to Samsung.
