Nationwide Building Society is seeking to ditch its £20m sponsorship of the England football team.

Nationwide - a Which? recommended provider for current accounts and credit cards - confirmed that it does not intend to renew its contract after 11 years sponsoring the team.

A Nationwide spokesman said: 'Nationwide’s sponsorship of the England team has been extremely successful over 11 seasons and has significantly raised the profile of our organisation. Our current sponsorship deal ends at the end of July and it is unlikely to be renewed.'

Sponsorship included branding on all training kit and tickets, backdrops during press conferences and signs at home games and training sessions. Nationwide also has deals with the Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland teams, which are also due to expire at the end of July and are unlikely to be extended.

Nationwide's BS Gold Visa card is among the best credit cards to use abroad, with no foreign loading fee for use in most European countries and a lengthy 15-month 0% balance transfer deal.
