Suzuki Alto SZ-L is marked out by unique wheels and black detailing

Suzuki has announced a new special edition of its ultra-frugal Alto city car, plus some minor updates to the Grand Vitara.

Suzuki Alto SZ-L special edition

The Suzuki Alto SZ-L is a special edition model based on the existing SZ3 specification.

Marking it out from the standard Suzuki Alto, the SZ-L has unique hubcaps, front foglights with black surrounds, black b-pillar trim, black side mouldings and a SZ-L tailgate badge. It’s available in white or red.

On the inside you get carpet mats, silver trim for the gearknob, vents and door openers, plus a body-colour finish for the heater controls, gearlever and door handle surrounds.

This is in addition to the SZ3’s fitted kit list, which includes air conditioning and four airbags.

The Suzuki Alto is cheap to run, returning 64.2mpg and emitting 103g/km CO2 (according to official EU testing figures) – impressive for a petrol engine. It costs just £20 a year to tax, and is in insurance group 1E.

The Suzuki Alto SZ-L is priced from £8,170.

Suzuki Grand Vitara

Suzuki Grand Vitara updates are very subtle

Suzuki Grand Vitara updates

Both three- and five-door versions of the Suzuki Grand Vitara have abandoned the vehicles’ signature rear-mounted spare wheel in favour of a puncture repair kit.

This has resulted in a slight redesign to the back end, giving the Grand Vitara what Suzuki describes as a more urban look, as well as a 200mm reduction in length. No changes to the off-road ability, however, with four-wheel drive, switchable high and low range gear ratios and a differential lock as standard.

At the same time, the 1.9-litre DDiS turbodiesel (available in the five-door only) has been reconfigured to meet Euro 5 emissions regulations.

This sees its CO2 emissions drop from 185g/km to 179g/km, with fuel economy improving to 41.5mpg combined (according to official EU testing figures).

Suzuki Grand Vitara pricing starts at £14,900 for the 1.6-litre petrol three-door; the revised 1.9 diesel five-door tops the range at £21,020.
