Think you can change a car tyre? Which? research reveals bizarre choice of tools
29 July 2010
Check car tyres for wear
Three quarters of people think they can change a car tyre, but a fifth of these don't know the best way to do it.
When Which? asked people what they thought they need to change a car tyre, suggestions included a hammer, scissors and a pair of pliers. A few even suggested they'd need a man.
All you actually need is a wrench and a jack - and if you're on a slight hill you might also need a block of wood as a chock.
If you're one of those people who's a little hazy on the details, watch our video guide to changing a tyre before you next hop in your car. If you need new tyres, see our car tyre reviews.
Far more men than women thought they could change a tyre - 96% compared with 55%.
