Save more than £5k on a 60-plate Focus
As anyone shopping for a new car will know, some manufacturer waiting lists are currently extending well into next year. This is bad news if you want to pick up a last minute bargain for the new 60 registration plate, which comes out in September.
Or at least, it sounds like it. However, if you’re prepared to be flexible about your exact choice of vehicle all is not totally lost. Motorpoint, for example, reckons it can give you a choice of five-door family hatchbacks, ready to go in September – and with significant savings.
The 1.6-litre petrol Ford Focus Zetec, for example, can be had for £10,999, saving £5,081 over the list price, while the 1.5-litre dCi turbodiesel Renault Mégane Dynamique – with climate control and parking sensors – is available for £12,999, a saving of £6,221.
Both are available to pre-order for September now, and both offer great value family motoring.

Get 10% off a Mercedes C-class
Get 10% off a Mercedes C-Class
Fancy a classy family saloon? Then the Mercedes C-class could well be for you.
Classy or not, you don’t have to pay full price. Carfile is offering 10% off every saloon and estate model in the range – and an extra £913 bonus on top. The only exceptions to this rule are the C63 AMG very high performance variant (still a respectable 6% discount here), and the 250 petrol, 350 petrol and 350 diesel models, which command the plain 10% discount alone.
But that’s ok, because the one you really want is the C250 CDI BlueEfficiency – an economical 201bhp turbodiesel that packs a massive 369lb ft punch of pulling power. List price as an estate in luxurious Elegance spec is £29,870.
Take 10% off that price, then subtract the £913 bonus and you have £25,970 – which represents a total saving of £3,900. Not bad.
Perodua's £1,000 'Swappage' scheme extended
Perodua Myvi for less than £6,800
Perodua has announced its £1,000 Swappage scheme has been extended until 31 October 2010.
You need a vehicle to trade-in to take advantage of this scheme, which reduces the price of the Myvi supermini to £6,799. For that you get air conditioning, all-round electric windows, electric mirrors, central locking and CD player and metallic paint as standard.
An automatic gearbox is £700 more, while until the end of August the Myvi Convenience Pack adds remote looking and chrome timings for £175 – a £120 saving.
You can visit your local Perdoua dealer for more details, but frankly we think you’d be mad to choose one of these over a more mainstream alternative – even if that means buying second-hand.
Hot Deal hunters please note:
• Not all brokers deal in UK sourced vehicles, and this may have an impact on standard equipment and warranty levels.
• The term ‘pre-reg’ or ‘pre-registered’ refers to vehicles that are brand new but already registered with the DVLA. This means that you will appear as the second owner in the V5 registration document.
• Beware of unscrupulous brokers who tell you that they will have to retain the V5 registration document for a period of time after your purchase of the car. Vehicles sold this way may be cheap, but there are numerous legal implications and as such they should be avoided.
• With regards to all of the above, always make sure you know exactly what you’re buying before you put your money down in order to ensure you are making an informed choice.
