Seat has revealed more details about its new Ibiza ST, a compact, supermini-based estate car.

Offering an extra 138 litres of boot space over the Ibiza five-door hatchback, the Ibiza ST provides 430 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in place, and a maximum load area of 1,164 litres with them folded.

And, although the car is Seat’s first-ever estate variant of the Ibiza, the Spanish brand has paid close attention to the practicalities. The boot lip is nice and low, and the load area flat and square.

At launch the Ibiza ST is available with a choice of two petrol and three diesel engines.

The entry-level 1.4 16v petrol pulls 84bhp, while the faster 1.2 TSI turbo petrol offers 103bhp and the option of a seven-speed DSG semi-automatic gearbox. This version is actually the fastest of all, with 0-62mph in 10.1 seconds and a top speed of 118mph – despite a commendable 55.4mpg and 119g/km CO2 emissions (according to EU testing figures).

Diesel choice comprises a top-spec 103bhp 1.6-litre TDI and a lower-level 74bhp 1.2 TDI, which is available in the fuel-saving Ecomotive guise. Pick this and you’ll pay zero road tax since it emits just 92g/km CO2 while returning a claimed 80.7mpg.

Three trim levels for Ibiza ST

The Seat Ibiza ST is available in three trim levels: S A/C, SE and Sport.

Standard equipment includes air conditioning, electric front windows, alarm with remote looking, aux-in, steering-wheel audio controls and roof rails. Six airbags are included across the range, but stability control does not feature as standard on all cars.

Further options include climate control (with refrigerated glove box), panoramic glass sunroof (replaces the roof rails), bi-Xenon headlights with washer jets, and a choice of alloy wheels up to 17 inches in diameter.

Ecomotive is the most expensive

The new SEAT Ibiza ST estate is on sale now, priced from £12,070 for the 1.4-litre S A/C. Topping the range is the 1.2-litre Ecomotive, priced from £14,910. Depending on the exact specification you go for, value is comparable to that offered by the Skoda Fabia Estate, the Volkswagen Group’s other supermini loadlugger.
