Fiat has announced a new BlackJack special edition of its 500 city car – complete with unusual matt black paint.

The Fiat 500 BlackJack is the first vehicle in any of the small car segments to feature such a radical paint finish.

Previously the reserve of high-end models from the likes of Mercedes and Bentley, matt paint is currently extremely fashionable in certain circles, so it should suit Fiat 500 buyers perfectly.

Matt black alloys

Matt black 16-inch alloy wheels with red centre highlights compliment the BlackJack’s matt black bodywork, while for contrast most of the exterior plastic parts have a metallic-effect finish. This includes the door handles, mirrors and number plate surround.

Based on the Sport specification of the regular Fiat 500, the only upgrade to the BlackJack’s interior is a set of special floor mats.

You can have your Fiat 500 BlackJack in 1.2-litre or 1.4-litre petrol guise only; the 1.4 features red painted brake calipers but otherwise the two are identical. Like all new Fiat 500s, a stop-start engine system is fitted as standard, which should help it save fuel in city centre driving.

BlackJack is on sale now

Just 200 examples will be made available to UK buyers in total and, as with the previous Fiat 500 Pink edition, orders will initially be taken online only, via Fiat’s website.

The 500 BlackJack is on sale now and costs from £12,165 for the 1.2, and from £13,565 for the 1.4 – representing a premium of £1,300 over the equivalent Sport model. Such is the price of fashion…
