Samsung has launched a camera with a built-in USB connector that allows direct charging from computer. The PL90 aims to offer a convenient way to charge your camera’s battery if your charger and a mains power point aren’t handy.
The 12.2 megapixel (Mp) model also does away with the need for using a separate USB cable to transfer photos to computer, although many people prefer using a memory card reader for that nowadays.

Smile and blink
The PL90 features Smile and Blink Detection, which allows you to automatically take a photo when the subject is smiling, then detects if the subject’s eyes were closed in the shot. There’s a Self-Portrait function too which helps you to take better shots of yourself by alerting you when you are in the frame. This is quite a thin camera, Samsung says that it’s 17.9mm thick. It has a 29-116mm lens.
Christopher Christoforou, Which? digital camera expert, said: ‘The built-in USB connector is unique on a camera and will probably be the main reason why people would choose this camera. The Self-Portrait function is also a nice feature to have, but otherwise the PL90’s specification is quite basic.’
According to Samsung, the PL90 will be available in September at a price of £129.99.
