Wilkinson Sword has launched its new Hydro range of moisturizing three and five-blade razors, designed to rival Gillette’s Mach III and Fusion razors.
The Hydro 3 and Hydro 5 razors come with a solid strip of lubricant above the blades, which creates a ‘hydrating’ gel when mixed with water to moisturize your skin while you shave. The Hydro 5 comes with a second stand-out feature – a flip-out trimming head.
Multi-blade razors can sometimes seem a bit too wide to reach all of the areas you need to shave, and edging side-burns and beards can be a little hit and miss.
Wilkinson Sword’s solution to this is to hinge the solid lubricating strip so that it can be flipped back with your thumb when not in use, making the blade cartridge around 20% narrower.
Which? shaving expert Matt Stevens told us: ‘New razors have to have something a bit different about them to make them stand out from the crowd, and the Hydro range ais no exception.
‘The thick, solid lube-strip is something we haven’t seen before, as is the flip-trimmer.’
Expert view on the Wilkinson Sword Hydro razors
Matt says: ‘I’ve been shaving with the Hydro 5 for two weeks and the shave felt comfortable and close. The flip-trimmer felt a bit gimmicky, and flipping it out of the way didn’t really help me with beard-edging. But these two razors look like they’ll be popular, and when Which? next test razors, we will look to include the Hydro range.
‘But if you fancy trying a new razor now, Which? has tested and reviewed 19 razors, including the Gillette Fusion Power, the Gillette Mach III, the Wilkinson Sword Quattro Titanium Precision and the King of Shaves Azor, and there are eight Best Buy razors.
To compliment the Hydro 5 and the Hydro 3 there are new Wilkinson Sword Hydro branded shave balms, creams, foams and gel.
