Stokke Tripp Trapp newborn kit

Stokke has just launched a baby seat that attaches to the Tripp Trapp and makes the iconic high chair suitable for babies from birth.

Like most high chairs, the Tripp Trapp is suitable for babies of around six months or over. Fitting the Newborn set - a small chair suitable for babies from birth to 9kg - to the top of the high chair allows babies of all ages to use the Tripp Trapp.

The high chair itself has adjustable height and footrests, so it can grow with your child.

Tripp Trapp Newborn set

We haven't tested the Newborn chair out on the Tripp Trapp, but Stokke tells us it's available to buy now for £99 from independent stockists. The high chair itself costs around £135.

The chair comes with a five-point safety harness, toy hanger (toy not included) and washable fabric covers - blue, green and purple colour sets available to buy separately.

It clips to the top rung of the high chair's back, with red/green indicators at the sides showing when the chair is safely attached. The Newborn set also comes with extra rear 'gliders' (circled in picture, below right) to increase the backward stability of the chair. The Stokke website has details on how to attach these.

Alternatively, the chair can be used on the floor. It's got anti-slide rubber grips beneath it, and a base shaped for easy rocking.

Tripp Trapp design

According to Stokke, the Tripp Trapp was designed to allow babies to interact with the whole family at mealtimes. Rather than having a feeding tray, the chair is positioned next to the table, so you child can eat or play alongside you.

Some parents have expressed concern about positioning the chair next to a table in this way as their children have used their feet to push off the edge of the table and tip the chair backwards. Newer Tripp Trapp models now come with additional stabilisers that extend the base.

Our review of the Tripp Trapp includes a full safety evaluation - read the test results here.
