Virgin TiVo pricing and launch date announcedVirgin reveals date and cost of it's new TiVo PVR
01 December 2010
Virgin has revealed the availability and cost of their new PVR, which is powered by TiVO. We reported on the new device last month, but at the time Virgin were keeping tight-lipped about the availability of the new box and it's TiVo features.
The original TiVo PVR devices were famous for recommending and recording programs based on the users viewing habits, and this functionality has been carried over to the new Virgin box.
Virgin say that the new device will learn to predict what types of shows the viewer wants to see, based on content, actors, and any ratings which they may have given. The remote features both 'thumbs up' and 'thumbs down' buttons, allowing the user to instantly rate any content. TiVo will then take this into account when recommending future shows.
Any content which TiVo automatically records will be stored in the 'My Shows' folder, ready to be viewed.

As well as the added TiVo functions, the new device also features an app store, launching with popular social internet sites including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and eBay. These services are delivered through the PVR's dedicated 10Mb cable broadband modem.
Virgin have stated that the number of available apps will increase over the coming months.
Availability and pricing
The new Virgin Media TV PVR will be available from mid-December, and will retail for £199, as well as a standard £40 installation cost.
