Samsung has announced the details of five new compact digital cameras in its ST range, which will launch in the UK in February and March.
The Samsung ST30, ST6500, ST95, ST90 and ST65 are all stylish, point-and-shoot cameras with subtle differences.
The Samsung ST30 is a very compact camera, with dimensions similar to a typical mobile phone.
It has a 10Mp sensor and features a digital image stabiliser designed to reduced the effects of camera shake.
While optical image stabilisers are usually superior, digital stabilisers are more affordable to make. This has helped Samsung set the price at around £90.
The Samsung ST30 will launch in March 2011.
The Samsung ST6500 is a stylish camera. Samsung describes its body as being angled for a more comfortable grip. It has a 16Mp sensor and a 5x optical zoom measuring 26mm at its widest.
The ST6500 has a 3-inch touchscreen and is able to capture HD video clips at 720p resolution. It features a combination of optical and digital image stabilisation that we shall put to the test under our lab conditions.
The Samsung ST6500 will launch in March for around £200.
The slim Samsung ST6500 has a 16Mp sensor and is able to capture HD video at 720p resolution. The video files are compressed, without loss of quality, so that more footage can be saved per GB of memory than on the other ST cameras being launched by Samsung this spring.
The ST95 has a 3-inch touchscreen and a 5x optical zoom beginning at 26mm.
The Samsung ST90, at 16.5mm, is the slimmest of the new ST digital cameras announced from Samsung for spring 2011. Like the ST95, it has a 5x optical zoom beginning at 26mm and a 3-inch touchscreen.
It also captures 720p HD video, but the clips will require more memory space than the ST95. At 14Mp, the ST90 has less resolution than the Samsung ST95.
The Samsung ST65 shares the same 14Mp sensor, 3-inch touchscreen LCD and HD video mode as the ST90, but the optics are slightly different.
While the ST65 also offers 5x optical zoom, it begins with a slightly narrower 27mm field of view. It’s also a shade thicker in size than the ST90.
The Samsung ST95, ST90 and ST65 will all launch in February 2011, and cost between £130 and £180.
