New Mercedes C-class Coupé revealed New competitor for Audi A5 and BMW 3 Series coupé

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the C-class Coupé. It’s exactly what it sounds like.
With the Mercedes CLK replaced by the Mercedes E-class Coupé and the smaller Mercedes CLC based on an older generation of car, the new C-class Coupé fills a gap in the range - and goes head to head with the BMW 3 Series coupé and the Audi A5.
AMG styling as standard
Looks wise, the Mercedes C-class Coupé is like a regular C-class only with two-doors and added curves.
From the front, it closely resembles the latest C-class facelift just introduced on the saloon and estate, albeit with detail changes to the grille that reflect other coupé models in the Mercedes line-up. The roofline is 41mm lower than the saloon, and finishes behind the rear axle, making the car seem shorter than it really is.
The arch of the roof is reminiscent of Mercedes’ CLS and CL coupés, while the rear lights are pushed right to the edges of the car in an effort to make the C-Class Coupé appear wider.
All UK cars will come equipped with an AMG Sports Package as standard - including a sporty body kit and 18-inch alloy wheels. This is presumably an effort to attract younger buyers, with Mercedes specifically targeting 35-45 year olds.
Sat nav and stacks of safety kit
On the inside the C-class Coupé is described as a full four-seater, promising a high level of quality with a sports feel.
The steering wheel is the same as that fitted in the latest CLS, while material choices include galvanised, matt and gloss finishes to provide an appealing contrast throughout the cabin. The new Coupé also benefits from all the technology enhancements introduced into the revised saloon and estate models.
This includes on-road internet access, Google Maps with the option to prepare a route on your home PC then upload it to the car, and a new Becker MAPPILOT system that provides a new low-cost satellite navigation solution intended to rival aftermarket sat navs for value while avoiding the mess of wires this usually brings.
There is also an extensive list of standard and optional safety systems available. Stability control, Attention Assist (which warns you if it thinks you’re nodding off at the wheel), Parktronic with Parking Guidance, and Pre-Safe are amongst the standard fit highlights; Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Assist (both available in normal and Active versions) and Pre-Safe Brake are choice options.
Eco start/stop as standard
At launch the new C-class Coupé will be available with a selection of two diesel and three petrol engines. All are fitted with Mercedes’ ECO start/stop system to help save fuel.
The diesels are badged C220 CDI and C250 CDI, and based on the 2.2-litre twin-turbo unit. Equipped with the standard six-speed manual gearbox the former produces 167bhp and is said to be capable of returning 64.2mpg, emit 117g/km, and hit 62mph in 8.4 seconds; the latter has 201bhp, does 0-62mph in 7.0 seconds, and still returns a claimed 57.6mpg while emitting 128g/km CO2. Figures depending on trim level and wheel size.
Petrol options comprise a pair of four-cylinder units badged C180 and C250, plus a V6 powered C350. This last is the fastest of the lot, with 0-62mph taking just 6.0 seconds, and a top speed of 155mph. 159g/km CO2 and 41.5mpg isn’t too bad, either.
No doubt an ultra-high performance AMG version of the C-class Coupé will follow later.
AMG-tuned ‘Agility Control’ adaptive suspension is fitted as standard on all UK cars, however, along with speed sensitive steering. All automatic versions come with seven gear ratios.

Geneva debut, on-sale June
The brand new Mercedes-Benz C-class Coupé gets its public debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March.
UK sales are set to commence this coming June. Details of pricing and equipment levels will be confirmed nearer this time.
