Apple has announced the Apple iPad 2 that will launch in the UK on 25 March 2011, in line with the price of the original iPad, which starts at £429.
The new Apple iPad 2 will be available in black and white, and as many expected, features two cameras: a rear-facing camera for 720p video and photographs, and a front-facing camera for video calls over FaceTime.

Apple iPad 2
The Apple iPad 2 will have a new dual-core Apple A5 1GHz processor, which Apple claims will provide double the processing speeds as its predecessor. The thinner (8.8mm) iPad 2 will weigh 0.6kg compared with the 0.7kg weight of the original version.
The 10-hour battery life, and 16GB, 32GB and 64GB memory capacities all remain the same, as does the 1,024×768 resolution 9.7-inch touchscreen display, although Apple claims that it will be less-prone to fingerprint smears. Like the previous iPad, wi-fi with 3G and wi-fi only versions will be available.
A switch on the side of the iPad 2 will allow you to lock the orientation of the screen in landscape or portrait, or toggle between volume on and off. The other wired connections remain the same: a typical 30-pin dock connector and a 3.5mm headphone socket.
iPad Smart Cover
New cases, known as ‘Smart Covers’ will be available for the iPad 2, illustrated in the image above. They fasten in place using magnets and switch the iPad 2 off when closed. The covers offer a slimmer fit than the previous cases, and they also act as a stand for your iPad 2. Apple also claims that they help to keep the screen clean.
Apple iOS 4.3
Apple also announced details of the new version of its operating system, iOS 4.3, which will offer, according to Apple, faster web-browsing over Safari and the ability to stream music and video to the iPad through iTunes. It will also allow users to stream AirPlay video to an Apple TV. Furthermore, iPhone 4 users will be able to share an internet connection between their phones and their iPads.
HDMI mirroring will also be available through the use of iOS 4.3. This feature will allow you to display what’s shown on the iPad’s screen on an HD TV.
Apple iMovie and Apple GarageBand
Two new apps were announced by Apple today. iMovie for ‘precision’ video editing over multi-tracks with the option of adding voice overs; and GarageBand, an eight-channel music editing suite with drum and piano synthesisers, were both unveiled.
