Telegraph enters daily discount marketNewspaper group will send special offers by email

The Telegraph Media Group (TMG) is the latest big name to enter the growing daily discount market.
TMG have launched Telegraph Selected, a service which will send a daily email offering a special, cut-price deal to its subscribers.
Selected offers will be available to purchase for a 24-hour period and will vary from luxury weekend breaks and experience days to meals at local restaurants.
However, the special deals will initially be focused in the London region.
Discount services a growth market
TMG, publisher of the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, is the latest high profile media company to launch a daily promotion service.
After having a $4bn bid turned down for market leader GroupOn last year, Google confirmed they were lauching their own Google Offers service last month, while, since January both Facebook and Incahoot have announced similar initiatives.
They join an ever-expanding group of companies, including Groupola, Snippa, kgbdeals, Crowdity and LivingSocial, all competing to turn a profit from special offers.
While all these sites can save you money with some real bargains, the quality of offers varies, and there is a risk of users being bombarded with emails.
People looking to save money through the sites could also be tempted by the discounts to waste money on experiences they do not want, while there is a risk that the providers of discounts might face such heavy demand for offers that they find it difficult to come up with good deals at the times that consumers really want them.
