According to strong rumours, Amazon is likely to launch a new own-brand tablet in October. The launch will come just in time for the Christmas sales period.
It will have strong competition in the shape of the popular Apple iPad 2, or the iPad’s successor should that be launched around the same time. Current rumours put the iPad 3 launch date between Autumn this year and early next year.

Details of the specification of Amazon’s new tablet are few and far between, but a 9-inch touchscreen and Android operating system are likely. It has also been suggested that unlike most other tablets there will be no integrated camera for still snapshots or video chatting. Amazon already sells a very popular portable device, the Amazon Kindle, and it will be interesting to see how the specification and pricing between the Kindle and the new tablet compare as more details of the product emerge.
